New battery?

I have a 15" macbook pro that I bought in summer 2007.

My battery condition is 'Replace Soon'. It goes from fully charged to like 20% in about an hour and 10 minutes, even when the screen is as dim as possible.

So I'd like to replace the battery, but is that an easy thing to do? Will it be a big deal to find a new battery for this? I know a lot of PC users have a hard time finding older model batteries.

Any input is appreciated.

They were re-engineered last year and just started shipping in January also.

I had ordered mine last Aug and waited until Jan to get it. So far so good. Seems to be holding up already much better than either of the 2 Apple batteries I've gone through in my MBP.

For sure no worry about how long they've been sitting on a shelf somewhere.

Re MBP batteries...
Other - non-Mac laptops and notebooks, it is possible to remove the battery on most I think, and this is often advised where you use your machine mainly from the mains and rarely take it out.

Wouldn't it be easier for all if Apple adopted a similar procedure for the MBPro ?

It is not advised to remove the battery from an Apple notebook when using it from mains. The CPU is automatically throttled down in speed when the battery is removed.

It should not be advised anywhere else either as far as that goes... for any brand of modern notebook.

Also, the battery on the above '07 MBP is removable and user replaceable.

But is your opinion that those who say you should remove your battery from a modern lap-top rather than a note-book - are correct ?

It is supposed to cause unnecessary drainage on the battery if it's constantly being re-charged through plugging into the mains etc
On my Acer laptop, I charged the removable battery to full and use it from the mains as I rarely have need to take it out anywhere etc

P.S. I wouldn't know how to even think about removing the battery from my MBP !

Way... way too many specs to list.

This is absolutely true. The CPU is throttled down to preserve the system as it is possible to draw more current than the mains adapter can provide alone. If that is hit, the system will power off and no data is preserved.

Awesome. How long will a charge last with these new batteries?

Don't expect a big increase in time. We still ain't gonna get anything like the new fangled batteries in the current models. Don't believe I've ever gotten much over 3 hrs on my MBP.

Sometimes wish I'd gotten the low end MB like my wife who gets about 4 1/2 hrs on hers... But then, no, I'll keep mine.
