Today I brought my MBA to the garage to surf the web and I lost wifi connection. The distance from the router is about 50' if it were line of sight. I thought my router was the problem, so I rebooted the router by unplugging the power source. Still the same thing. While carrying the MBA and walking towards the router, I regain connectivity.

I did another test and took my Dell XPS M140 laptop to the garage and it held the wifi signal throughout the garage.

The wireless router I'm using is the Netgear WNR2000.

This is strange... Have anyone experienced this problem?

Thanks,

I'm not expert by any means, but I'm guessing the distance AND the things in the way (walls mainly, fridges, cars, and what ever is between your router and MBA while in the garage) definitely have something to do with loosing connection. I am pretty sure I read on a router's specs on the box said something along the lines of "..ranges for connectivity we're tested in an open environment with little to no obstructions.."

As for the 2nd computer keeping the connection, it may have a different wifi antenna, or multiple ones.. with that said I have no idea how many the MBA has either.

Take this with a grain of salt, and let other more experienced users voice their thoughts.

Could be as simple as a channel change also might want to make sure the encryption is set to WPA2 for distance and security. WEP and newer Mac's don't play well.

I noticed that there was a near by wifi on the same channel and I changed the channels and it still lost signal in the garage.

I didnt know about the WPA2 encryption. Thanks!

If you Google WPA2 Personnel it will give you the greatest range with protection enabled if you post the model and brand of router I or someone
else may be familiar with menu access on the router to help you change it. I missed where you posted it sorry but here you go. http://documentation.netgear.com/wnr2000/enu/202-10397-01/wnr2000-04-02.html

Could also be a sign that the WiFi card in the MBA is going bad.
