Can anyone help me.
I have a Mac Book and I want to connect it to my TV via a HDMI cable. My Mac Book is running OSX v10.6.7 and was bought last April 2010.
I have spoken to two different people at the Apple store and have been given conflicting advice.
1st guy told me that since my Mac Book was pre May 2010 I would need an adapter to connect my Mini Display to the HDMI cable. So I bought one. Picture quality is good but I have no sound. So I returned to Apple Store to ask about settings in the Utilities.
The 2nd guy told me that my Mac Book was old and that its Mini Port didn't support sound. Therefore I would need to buy an additional cable to connect my headphone socket to my TV.
Now I don't know who to believe. May be the 1st guy was right or the 2nd but I don't want to end up buying loads of cables and adapters If the guys in the Apple store don't know whats going on.
So my question is-can anyone advice me on how this connection is possible??

Your Mac's Specs
15" MBP '06 2.33 C2D 4GB 10.7; 13" MBA '14 1.8 i7 8GB 10.11; 21" iMac '13 2.9 i5 8GB 10.11; 6S
Both of them are correct. There is no conflicting advice there - at least not in what you"ve said above.

To get from your MB to HDMI, you needed the video adapter.
To get audio, you need an audio cable for it. Which one? Don't have a clue without knowing either what brand and model TV you have or you can tell us what type of audio port is used in conjunction with HDMI on your TV.

To figure it out, you could give us that info, or you could read post # 3 here.

You're going to need a 3.5mm to RCA cable for the audio - like one of these.

Option 1
HDMI 1 for the video cable and the Component inputs for audio.

Option 2
HDMI 3 for the video cable and the AV3 inputs for audio.

AND YOU'RE NOT DONE YET

Once you have it connected, you're going to have to go into the menu on the TV and change the sound to analog for whichever port you end up using.

Your owner's manual is located here.

See pg 27 for the above menu setting.
See pg 63 for where to connect - you'll need to read the DVI section.
