Does anyone know of a good forum for medical/health? I've taken a look at WebMD, but i'm looking for something with a more people friendly community; answers don't seem to get answered unless you do the research yourself.

I'm looking to ask some questions about my girlfriend's health, so either for women, or just a general medical/health forum would be of help.

My condolences on your girlfriend's health problem.

IMO there isn't a substitute for doing the research yourself. The problem is health and nutrition are worse than Mac vs PCs. There is a lot of conflicting, confusing, erroneous and often outright garbage information and advice out there.

The only way to have a chance to sort it out is to make yourself familiar with the basic research, and even then you find a lot of misleading studies.

I would do the research, then find a doctor you trust and work with him/her.

...once you have that research, why not do your own site?
That's what I did, I was diagnosed in 2007 with an Idiopathic DVT Deep Vein Thrombosis, AKA a blood clot. Like most of you, I was totally unaware as to what DVT was, I started to do my own research and like Razormac said "There is a lot of conflicting, confusing, erroneous and often outright garbage information and advice out there." and many, coming from the med. community itself.
With all the info accumulated, I went to my Hematologist and asked if this made sence. She was almost in tears, due to the fact that she knew that everything I knew about DVT was mainly because of her. She said GO for it, it has my blessing...
Sometimes sites are better put together (I'm talking of med sites) by patients because they have been through it, it's nice that the Dr. have the knowledge, but somebody that has lived it, knows of the physical and psychological impact it has on them PERSONALLY.

Just my $0.02
