Wireless extender

Hopefully somebody can help me out here. I am in France at the moment and have an Orange LiveBox as my wireless router to my MacBook Pro running Snow Leopard (10.6.7). The LiveBox has a range of about 10m on a good day, so I bought a TP-LINK Range Extender, that was 2 weeks ago and I have still not got my Mac to talk to the Extender via ethernet, which is supplied with the gadget. I have been in contact with the manufacturers constantly have have got no further forward. Does anybody out there have one of these Range Extenders and if so how did you get it to work.
