Hey guys, I'm new to the macbook scene and I just locked myself out of my MBP. I tried holding C when I restart it with the Install disk, but it goes straight to the login box and it just puts a lot of Cs on the Name part. Then I tried doing the Command+S, but it goes straight to the login screen and it just makes the "dinging" sound. Then I tried the "hold alt/option" way, but it takes me to a blank screen with a padlock on it. What do I do next???

It sounds like your MacBook Pro has a Firmware Password. That can not be reset with the DVD. Did you buy this machine new or used?

I got it used. I don't know what the firmware password is since I lost contact with the guy I bought it from

Not good news alas.

Firmware protection is used where the laptop is at risk of being illegally used or stolen. Do you get a locked padlock image at all?

Yeah, there was a padlock image and was asking for a password. Is there a way to reset that? Or am I basically "fudged"?

Try this. It may or may not work. It definitely will not work on the 2010 and 2011 machines. Only Apple or an authorized Apple repair service agent can reset it on the later Macs.
