Overclocking CPU & GPU

A while ago i had a HP G60 AMD CPU and NVIDIA 8200m GPU. I used to overclock it using the NVIDIA control panel, and evga precision. Latley ive been trying to overclock other computers including my mac but i seems that its impossible. Why is this? why can i overclock my CPU or GPU in my mac.




I do run win7 on my mac to try and overclock but no luck. Any one know why?

If at all possible, overclocking works only on a few select system and even then only with hardware based changes meaning it cannot be done with software.
Don't ask me why though.

Bad idea to overclock a Mac. The CPU/GPU temps have been closely monitored by Apple engineers, and if you haven't noticed, Macs tend to run hotter than PCs (due to the confined spaces the components are in). They are already running at optimal speed and temperature. You haven't got much headroom to play with - and as you may know, more volts, more heat. Most Overclockers use beefy aftermarket heat sinks with multiple large heat pipes dragging heat away from the CPU, before being cooled by multiple fans. Most Macs only have a couple of small stock fans - specifically designed to cool the CPU inside the system at the speed it is already running at.

You have no control over the airflow of your system, other than using an app to speed the fan up. Which can damage the fans.

With these limitations in mind, is it really worth risking damaging your computer for about a 5-10% (if that) increase in performance anyway?

For the little speed gain it ain't worth it. Don't try this unless you want a broken mac. Just buy a i7 MBP like i did.

Well last night i overclock my iMac 7,1 Ati 2400 xt, C2D 2.0ghz. I overclocked the Gpu and played Need for speed shift 2 @ 1248 x 600 in windowed mode. Low settings and it still looked pretty **** good worked like a charm. I used ATI tray tool because nothing else seemed to work, not even evga precision(witch was my fav before switching to mac) or even ati tool. Rivatuner either.

iMacs run way cooler than Macbooks

You could run that on stock speeds. 1248 x 600 isn't exactly amazing...
