Wait. What? Last I heard, Lion had the server built in, all you had to do was set it up.

This stinks, I was looking forward to it being included as a part of the normal OS version. Don't want two separate versions!

There's tons more folks that don't want/need a server OS on their machines than there are those that do. Makes sense to me, making it an optional install.

It's not a separate version of OSX. It's just an add-on download, just like if you want X-Code, you download it.

Too many...
Makes sense to me. Why waste space on an hdd(unless it gives you the option to no apply the install) to install a server that you will never use? This is probably more important with more and more Apple Macbook's coming standard with ssd's in the future, as well as making Lion cheaper for everyone else.

My only issue with this is what seems to be a contradiction in the wording used. On the Lion preview website, it notes that the server components will be part of Lion implying that they are free while the article seems to suggest that the tools will have to be purchased. Not a huge concern for me but I hope that the tools, if available through the MAS, are free. I had every intention of making my current MB a server one day if the tools were free but, being the cheap person that I am, may reconsider using Lion if that were not the case ;).
