No although IOS's Core is OSX. But the desktop OSX can not work on the iPad as it's not a touch OS.

OS X is also Intel/PPC, and the iPad is ARM. Completely different codebase.

I'm sure it CAN. It's just a matter of how much work you plan on putting into getting it to work. ;P

Actually, I'm pretty sure you can't..unless, of course, if you have access to the source code to first inject ARM-specific functionality and also make it touch-screen aware..

This level of functionality is all the way down at the Kernel level and the core OS level..

Exactly, there's nothing physically barring a person from installing OS X on an iPad. It's just a question of how many months they want to devote to the project ;P

And since Apple doesn't release the source code for the Kernel or the OS..it'd have to be someone in Apple that does the work..:p

You could use a remote desktop app to control your Mac with your iPad. That's the easiest thing I could think of other than what Kash suggests, which is not easy.

I don't know what it is with people and their inability to give a clear answer sometimes! :)

To lekhraaj: the answer is no. iPads can't run Mac OS X.

Well, you know, some folks don't really want the honest truth. They want the if you do this, then that, then the other thing, then maybe you can get it to work.

Then they'll go, "Oh, ok, it can't be done".

I flat out said no, it will not work. And IOS does use OSX at the core.

I didn't say your answer was wrong, dtravis. You are correct, iOS is a subset (and touch-based extension) of OS X. But your answer left wiggle room for interpretation, so until the OP clarifies their request, I have to assume that they wanted the simplest possible answer (as do most new people who post questions) so just to be thorough I gave them that as well.

Not a problem and agree completely. I just saw your post and decided to make sure people understood my answer was NO WAY! :D Grin
