Greetings

I've been scratching my head for a while now and it's starting to bleed, so I thought I'd seek some outside help...

The options bar for iTunes, iPhoto, Text, Transitions, etc are all greyed out and consequently I am unable to insert a picture (or anything else) into my grand production.

Now these options were available to me at one point, so clearly I've done something to disable them. Can anyone tell me how to get them back, please?

You may now stand in a line and take turns in telling me what a blithering idiot I am....

Cheers Mitcherooney

I can't duplicate your problem, so I'm going to suggest you quit iMovie, run OnyX or your preferred disk-utility maintenance program, then restart.

Maybe try trashing the iMovie .plist as well.

Thanks for your responses chas_m and MG...

I've had a torrid couple of days... I tried deleting the plist for iMovie and also running Onyx, but I was confused somewhat by the program, but I decided to follow its suggestion of restarting with the OS disk and running Disk Utility from there.

This is when my problems really started...

I couldn't find disk utility on the disk - and ended up accidentally reinstalling the OS (Snow Leopard) !!

Then when trying to start iMovie, I was told that the MPEG-2 (?) component was missing... Managed to d/l QT and the message went away.

Anyway, having tied myself in knots, I thought I'd use the TM backup... only to find that the last backup was 6 Feb! Blood pressure mounting....

To cut and extremely long and possibly boring story short, everything now seems to be working.

And the original problem? I was working on a trailer, and the options mentioned in the original post are meant to be greyed out. They are present when working on a movie. I had wanted to insert a 'still' where a closeup goes on the trailer. Schoolboy error........

Just how do you run disk utility from the DVD - the option didn't seem to be available?

Cheers Mitcherooney

For future reference:

When starting up from the system DVD, it will start by asking you to choose a language. Once that is done, DO NOT carry on with the procedure, and instead look up to the menubar, from where you can choose "Disk Utility."
