Upgrading Software

Hi
I am currently using 10.4 on my G5 desktop. I am interested in upgrading to 10.5 only because my Mac is only running with PowerPC. I just wanted to know in order to upgrade am I just installing the CD? Should I do anything before, I do nit want to loose any settings or information. Thanks for the help.

In order to upgrade to Leopard, you'll need to buy a retail version which is going to be difficult to find and when you do, it's probably going to cost around $100 or more.

When you get ready to upgrade, make a backup of your hard drive first. You'll then need to use the Leopard retail DVD to install. Boot the machine with the Leopard DVD and do the installation. It should archive your Tiger data during the upgrade. But make sure you have a backup of everything just in case.

You will need an external hard drive and a copy of Carbon Copy Cloner:

You can then make a complete copy of your hard drive, just incase something goes wrong with the upgrade. You will also be able to then make regular backups incase the internal drive on your Mac fails.
