FINAL CUT PRO - Upgrading

I have recently bought the final cut pro 5 upgrade to upgrade my final cut pro 4.5 that I had.. I have expeirence using final cut pro 5, and really want it running on my computer, So after buying the upgrade figured I would go home and install it and it would work... right? Wrong. It asks me for my 4.5 serial number, so I provide it and it does not accept it as a valid serial number. I know it is... It worked with 4.5!!! i double and tripple checked it over again... heres my question, I have access to final cut pro 3... will that serial number work since my serial number is not working?

This is a real pain in my butt, but hopefully one of you guys will know how the upgrade of final cut pro works. This is the first experience on apple that I am not enjoying.

What type of license do you have? I happen to have an Academic license. I am wondering if a retail update license will work.

I have the retail licence... I have no idea why its not working though and I am starting to get annoyed.

My suggestion would be to give Apple a call. Since both copies of Final Cut are valid retail licenses. they should be able to help you.

Ok, I guess I will have to do that, What will they do if the serial number I have is not functional?

Hopefully they will do what ever it takes to get you working, even if it is to give you a new functional serial number.
