Hey,

* Warning, may be a silly question.
I want to put a new bigger hard drive in my macbook.

I've sus it out, but all tutorials go through transfering data from your old to your new first.

Which I don't really want to do. Id rather selectively move what i need on to an external.

I would like to know, can I simply install and new hard drive, switch it on and install osx? or is there stuff that is needed on the hard drive to do this in the first place.

Thanks

Way... way too many specs to list.
Yep, you can always just swap and install. Just boot off the restore media and go.

Depending on how the drive comes formatted you might have to format it to HFS before installing but that can be done using Disk Utility from the restore disk.
