So I picked up a new APEx and I know I can use the USB port for a printer or a HDD (currently it has a printer hooked up to it). Question is, can I put a USB hub on it and use a HDD AND a printer....?

I don't have one (yet) - but the answer is yes. At least if the documentation is to be believed. I read that when I was doing some research on the AE previously - and just took a quick glance at the manual to confirm.

Agreed with both Brian and Osxx. When it first came out I read about and even had friends who used it with a USB HUB and did what you are asking. That is one feature on the AEBS that makes it so nice.

So I am quite sure it will work. Powered Hub though for sure.

Cool. Thanks for the info fellas. I'll go pick me up a powered hub this week along with a case for one of my spare 500Gb drives and see what happens!

My question, what happens if, let's say, while files are being backed up to the drive you send a print job out? Or do you just have to make sure you're only using one at a time?

Yeah no problem - I used to have an old canon printer and some drives hooked up. Worked great. I've since gotten a network multi-function so the only thing I have hooked up is drives. But you can read/write to multiple drives with multiple computers fine as well.

On a side note - when my original time capsule died - I pulled the drive out, put it in a cage and hooked it up to the new time capsule through USB. Still using that drive as a time machine backup and as storage for my itunes library.
