external monitor won't work on mac

I have a HP lp2065 LCD monitor that I am trying to attach to my mac. It has a DVI to VGA cord that I then have plugged in to a mini DVI to VGA adapter for my macbook. When I plug it in my computer recognizes it but the monitor says no signal. Can anybody Help?

You should be using a mini DVI to VGA adapter from the video output port on your MacBook which then plugs in to a VGA cable that goes to the VGA input on your HP monitor. Is that the setup which you have?

If the above is correct, make sure all the connectors are making contact and that they're plugged in tight. (from both sides) Also make sure that the VGA input is selected on the HP. If the HP is set for digital (DVI) input you will not get a signal from your MacBook.

No VGA input on the HP? You need a mini DVI adapter to DVI and a DVI cable to attach to the HP. I don't understand why you are trying to use a VGA adapter and cable?

I can't really identify the adapter from the photos but your HP definitely has two DVI input ports, no VGA. That means you need a mini DVI to standard DVI adapter and then a standard DVI cable to plug into the HP. If all that's OK, you should be getting a signal to the HP.
