And that even works when the window is not the one in focus. Don't have to click once to bring it into focus and then double click - just double click.

Back to my old 2.2GHz C2D MB after selling my MBP and wondering what my next Mac will be :)
???

It's done it for me across all three of the last OS X versions.

Ahah... just found it hidden in system preferences, appearance :p

Been so long ago that I changed it, just "thought" it was standard. :D

I don't understand... double clicking where exactly to minimise any app?
I never heard of this, and tried on a couple off apps and got nothing!

System Preferences, Appearance Tab.

As to the issue of clicking on a button and having nothing happen, I can speak to this experience as well. Not only with the buttons, but when clicking into a finder folder which is several levels deep. Sometimes the farthest I can get is about 3 folders in, and on the 4th double click (that's 7th click) I'll have to click outside of the folder, anywhere in Finder and then go back to it in order for it to open that last folder where my files are.

I'd like to think this is a bug because it serves no other purpose than to annoy the heck out of me, as far as I can tell.

Oke guys, let me clarify my problem.

The problem is not that the red x button doesn't "exit" the application, it simply doesn't close that window.

Normally if you would hit the red x button (and yes my eye sight is fine ;-) )
it would close the window but would leave most applications running in the background (with a little blue/white light underneath the application icon in the Dock)

But when I hit the red x, sometimes, not always, the window wont close and simply NOTHING happens..

But I ONLY have this flaw with the red x button, everything else is fine!

my machines are:

2010 MBP, 15" 2.53 GHz I5
2010 MBP, 15" 2.4 GHz I5

I've been having similar issues, but not specifically with the red button only. I've been meaning to go buy another mouse, as I don't have a spare.

But just being with that one button suggests a problem with Finder. Maybe this was suggested above (no time to read every post) but perhaps a new finder.plist file would solve it.

It may have to do only with certain apps and Lion. Was going through my 200 or so apps last night to start verifying they all work and to see if I have any I don't use and could delete. Found a couple so far where only the red button did not function.

One was Coverscout/Song Genie and the other was Overdrive Media Console. Have not been able to reproduce it on either of them this morning.

With Coverscout, I had to use the quit function.

With Overdrive, i was able to just click outside the window, then click the window To bring it in focus again, and it would work.

For the op, if you're having the issue on every app, the I'd follow the suggestion to remove the Finder plist file and do a permissions repair.

If it's only a few random apps, guessing we may need a fix from Apple. But, it wouldn't hurt to try those same 2 steps.
