I was looking up flights on Travelocity and all the sudden a Mac Protector software thing popped up. It was telling me that I had the "Troyan virus" and some others that were "high risk"... then gay porn started popping up in Firfox. Is this just a scam trying to get me to purchase their antivirus software or should I be concerned??

You don't have anything unless you gave your password and installed the MacProtector scam software.

It's the same phoney baloney scam A/V junk that's been around windows for years, only now, as of last week, they've put it out so they can scam money from Mac owners - using three different names.

Since when is popping up gay porn (or anything else) part of the Mac Defender thing? I thought it just says you have a virus and tries to get you to purchase so it can get your credit card #.

I glossed right over that part of it...

I'd still guess it's just the site being visited. If the site is infected with the MacProtector, it could very well be infected and having it's pages being re-directed to porn sites.

Quit the browser and open it back up and browse around for awhile, staying away from the particular site that started the issue and see what happens.

Search the forums, you'll find lots of info.

And check this link - it apparently does open porn sites to make you think you do have a virus - just an added bonus to make you think you really do need their software.

Note: I moved this out of the off-topic forum. Sounds very much like Mac-related discussion to me.
