oh dear, Powermac G5 DP 2.0Ghz 160GigHDD
Hi everyone,

I recently reinstalled the OS (not delete and install) and it would be on the net on no time at all after start up.
Gradually it is taking longer and I can hear the hard drive crunching for up to a minute.
Is there anything that can be done to get it going like a fresh install?

Any tips would be great, cheers

My computers do the same thing. When I restart the computer (after putting it to sleep each day for a couple weeks)...the hard drive will "crunch away" for a few minutes. This is just some sort of maintenance routine.

A second possibility is your hard drive is going bad. But if everything is fine after the first few minutes (3-5 minutes) after a reboot...then everything is fine. But if the slow down continues after 3-5 minutes...then it could be your HD.
