If I open the file folder labeled Applications, in Finder, Places, user (the home icon), it is empty. If I click on the Applications icon in Finder, Places, it lists all of the applications. What is the purpose of this empty Applications folder? Is it just a convenient place to put frequently used applications, and the default is that it is left empty?

I guess I'm not 100% sure of the purpose of finder sidebar Places. Is it simply a place to put links to frequently used items?

thanks, Kevin

Your Mac's Specs
Way... way too many specs to list.
The difference is this:

/Applications - Where applications installed for all users are located

/Users/<username>/Applications - Where applications installed for ONLY that user are installed.

You're correct on the sidebar, but I never use it to be honest.
