No sound when playing videos through the internet

whats wrong? when i play videos in sites, thers no sound. not just videos but anything that has sound wont play. games work but dont have sound also. sometimes an error comes out saying codec not supported or stream not supported when it uses windows media player. problem is everything used to play fine before. even some of the video files saved in my hd wont play on windows media player anymore. help!

What version of OS X and Media Player?

osx 10.4.2. windows media player ver 9

My buddy had the same problem, he fixed it using this instead of WM9, it plays WM files..

even the windows media sample wont play on it. it says the file was compressed by using a codec that is not supported. the file is media players own sample! any ideas? thanks in advance!

shot in the dark but tried a repair permissions?

also see what codecs you can uncover as when i had winblows i used the nimo codec pack and never found a video i couldnt play with that

i have that. i use it to play vieos. but sometimes video streams look for windows media player. another problem i have is when i play flash games. no sound. thanks

found the problem. midi setup output i think has to be set at 48000hz
