Safari has developed a weird problem. Downloads are working as normal but .zip files just hang on "Preparing to download". Firefox works fine.

I recently installed Virusbarrier X6 so I thought that might have something to do with it but turning "Scan archives" off has no effect and I can't see a way to simply turn it off for a while.

I tried deleting the cache but before I delete all my cookies and history I thought I'd see if anyone has had a similar problem.

Thanks in advance.

You dont need Virusbarrier X6 unless you download lots of Windows files that may be infected. I would uninstall it, and see if the problem stops. If not, i would try repairing permissions through Disk Utility.

Agree with Rob ~ think you have found your problem.

Go into Safari Preferences > General and make sure the box at the bottom to download 'safe' is not selected.
