Hi! I might be considered a newbie for fonts if they are the problem. So, please, be patient.
I've got one of the first Intel MacBook Pro. First with Leopard, then I upgraded it to Snow Leopard. Before, I somehow never attempted to print anything directly. Always through Unix or Linux systems. Now I need to print my files directly from my MacBook but I found out that I can't get a perfect output on any (HP) printer. I tried with HP Color Laser CP1025 and the Mac printer for it.
It does not print out ps or pdf files correctly. For instance, big dots in a a PS file produced by Mathematica are missing, "ff" in the text causes lines to stretch out, etc. Then I tried with HP Color Laser 3600. There garbage lines are added over particular text. For example over Abstract in a pdf file. Then I tried HP black/white laser 1200. There "ff" are shortened and lifted up, only upper part of greek letters is preinted, etc.
Can anyone help me? I'll obediently write in anything that is needed to obtain relevant information about my system. I can start with some information:
ver. 10.6.7, Processor 2.6 Intel, Kernel Version: Darwin 10.7.0,
SDKs:
Mac OS X:
10.5: (9L31a)
10.6: (10M2518)
Printing does not report any error. Log is here:

Do you have the latest Snow Leopard drivers installed for your printer(s)?

Thank you for your reply.

You asked whether I have the latest SnowLeopard drivers installed.

I think so. I purchased the SnowLeopard disk and installed it. That upgraded the system from Leopard to SnowLeopaard. After that I was regularly updating the system through "Software update", through Fink, and through Ports.

macbook pro snow leopard fails to print correctly on any printe

I mean the Gutenprint etc files are there by default are supposed to be recognized. And the MacBook really does recognize HP Color Laser 3600
and HP Laser 1200 and print right away. For HP Color Laser PC1025nw I had to install the HP driver.

Is there any chance is has to do with the file? Does this happen with all pdf files? What happens when you print the same file from another computer?

Also, there was a bug in 10.6.7 with OpenType fonts. Apple released a Font Updater a couple weeks ago that might address this issue.

Ohhh it just clicked.
You have 10.6.7 and your trying to print a PDF :slaps forehead:

There is a problem with the update from X.6.6 to X.6.7

Read 10.6.7 update causes OpenType font issues.
This in the 1st paragraph

There's a thread on Apple's Discussions boards suggesting that Mac OS X 10.6.7 introduces issues with OpenType PostScript fonts when it comes to printing and PDF handling. Kurt Lang writes:

"As soon as you install 10.6.7, OpenType PostScript fonts are indeed broken... [the issue] is confined to OT PS fonts. All PDF files, including those using OpenType PostScript fonts display correctly in Preview. With the Acrobat Reader, all PDF files display correctly except those using OT PS fonts. So no matter who gets PDF files created under 10.6.7 using OT PS fonts, they will not display correctly on the Mac or in Windows..."

Apple Discussion boards.

Sorry it took a while to click but ill back my bottom dollar that this is the problem. I l had to BackUp, Re-insatll and then download the 10.6.6 combo Update.

Hope this helps and sheds some light on things for you.

Cheers

EDIT : EvenStranger beat me to it. Didnt re-read post as i wrote this out then copy/pasted it. but it should fix your problem.

Go
Software & Driver Downloads HP LaserJet Pro CP1025nw Color Printer - HP Customer Care (United States - English)
HERE and download the latest drivers and install.

I did that several times it does not help.

But I did install the newest Gutenprint 5.2.7 which was released!
on May 2, 2011 and after that the other two printers HP Color Laser 3600 and HP BW Laser 1200 of my colleagues worked perfectly in the following weird way. Now there is even a driver my printer HP Laser PC1025nw but it still cannot print correctly. The same problems as before.

Now the title should be changed from

macbook pro snow leopard fails to print correctly on any printer

to

macbook pro snow leopard fails to print correctly on HP PC1025nw

I tried several files and they are all printed incorrectly on HP CP1025nw and flawlessly on other computers.

Correct.

It might well be.

Yes, which steps should I take?

I read that but could not understand what I should do about that wrong fonts.

Best.

I think he was saying the only option is to back up your stuff and reinstall OSX then upgrade only to 10.6.6. That what I took away from it at least. Seems like quite a hassle for a font issue.

The Font Update was available through Software Updates, but should be available as a standalone download from here.

I downloaded and installed the fonts but the print errors of my HP PC1025nw didn't change a bit. It does not print colored dots from a figure although it
prints BW lines and colored text from the same figure. The same happens whith a pdf file printed from Preview and a ps file printed from gv. (ghost view).
There are other errors. For instance, all "ff" cause either additional space in a line or shrinking; e.g., it prints "efficiency" as effi ciency" and the line protrudes from the paragraph. There are no problems with viewing of these files on the screen. I can't believe that HP sells the printer with a faulty driver, that they have a faulty driver on their site, and that a faulty driver is in the Gutenprint. (The vendor says they've tried that type of printer on a Snow Leopard and found no errors. They didn't want to try it with my files though.) Can it be a hardware error? Should I take the printer to another computer for a test?

That's very bizarre. At this point I'd be leaning toward the possibility that the CP1025 isn't fully compatible since the later 10.6.x updates. You know the print information works, because it prints normally on other printers. You know this printer, so far, hasn't printed anything correctly from the Mac. How is the printer connected? If it's on your network, does connecting through USB make any difference? Or possibly vice versa? If you have access to another Mac, does it print successfully? Have you created a test user account on your computer and tested printing from it? Maybe it's a software corruption in your user profile.

I would try the printer on another computer to see if it's doing the same thing. It's strange that both the HP driver and Gutenprint drivers have not worked. Also, it's always possible that particular printer is not compatible with OS X.
