That particular drive has some pretty severe compatibility issues with OS X. One of our staff members, bobtomay struggled with it for quite awhile before giving up.

Thank you very much!

Do you have any that you would reccommend that are 500gb and 7200rpm?

Ok thank you very much! Much cheaper than the one that I previously stated. Now for my old 250gb drive, would I just purchase an enclosure for it and I could use it as a backup drive? Or would I just keep it and now mess with any of the files?

Yes an enclosure, and you can boot from it and clone to your new hard drive using SuperDuper or Carbon Copy Cloner. Today one needs a back up of the operating system and important files. Your MacBook Pro have Firewire 800? Then look for a Firewire 800 case as this is much, much faster than USB.

I have that drive in my 2011 MBP 15". I haven't had a single issue with it and i've had noticeable performance gains with the new HDD :)

I just looked at the forums and reviews on the seagate website. According to Seagate, downloading the newest firmware for it (sd 25 or something) fixes the problems. I think ill take my chances. The worst that can happen is that they give me my money back or a new one. I have an external hard drive so I can backup.
