Apple may have a "major product launch" scheduled for May 19th or shortly thereafter, a source with the company suggests. The date marks the 10th anniversary of Apple's retail stores, but some unusual preparations are said to be on the way for the weekend. No guesses as to what it is? I literally just left the Apple Store down here in Tampa - should have asked.

Since people can't speculate on the white iPhone or the Verizon iPhone anymore, I'll go with the new recurring and unfounded rumour - free MobileMe!

I think it's a bit premature. The third developers release just came out, and from what I understand, bugs are aplenty.

When you start to see word of a "gold master" release, that's when you know it's close.

No way that they release Lion before WWDC.

I don't think it's any of the things mentioned thus far. AFAIK Lion has not reached Golden Master status so release is unlikely. MobileMe might be free but I don't see this as needing the kind of full court press that article suggests.

Not sure what it is but it will probably cost us all some cash.

Isnt the new Final Cut round the corner? I doubt there would much hype for it though.

Lest this company make a dopey, MS-like move (heaven forfend!)

They need to get their act in order on CURRENT issues.

It's not their fault that Japan had an earthquake, but the shortages of IPadII continue to persist.

What would be helpful is for all the lines that are STILL forming outside Stores in the morning anticipating deliveries, is for a catch-up production run that puts a pallet or 3 of IPadII's in every store at the same time, and this Saturday would be fine. Make a big announcement, people will be there and clamoring.

Heck a tractor trailer load each at the major stores. I might even get one though I am STILL having a riot making all the fun new discoveries on a MBP 17" daily and its like 2 months now that I've had it. Yesterday was learning to encrypt files with software already built into the system, no extra charge.

Interesting. They don't seem to be in short supply here. I was just noticing that Target had a number of them in the display case yesterday, which was a change from a few weeks ago.

Additionally, my company ordered me one from their supplier and I had it about a week later. Shortages must be confined to certain areas, I suppose.

Iwork11? maybe, but this hype for a software? hard to believe

With that kind of hype - it seems like it has to be hardware - although I don't have the experience with Apple releases you guys do. Judging by the training involved and the scope of the logistics though - it must be something with broad appeal - which means bigger than just a SW package. Maybe an AppleTV - screen included?

Buyer's Guide has several Ipod variants up for replacement, and the conventional plain, macbooks (not the pro series) are also overdue.

My Guess is that they are going to launch several things at once:

An Apple Television
New MacBooks
New Mini's
Iworks 11
