Hey folks,

If I get a Mac, I'm hoping I can seamlessly share Office files between the Mac and a PC. Specifically, I plan to get Office 2011 for Mac and I currently have Office 2010 for PC. I've searched but can't find a definitive statement on compatibility that's based on experience. Will I be able to open and edit files -- without any data or formatting loss -- in either program regardless of which program they were created in? From what I know, the files would have to retain the x extension (as in docx vs. just doc), but are they truly compatible?

Thanks.

They are pretty much 99.9% compatible. Unless you're doing something really, really obscure and complex you should be fine. I share files back and forth a lot and have never found an issue yet.

I work with both a lot and with very complex spreadsheets and forms which include VBA in the background and have not had any issue yet working in either version.

I have not noticed even any format loss, much less data loss, moving between the Mac and Windows versions.

Well, in that case, for once the Mac comes out a little less expensive. Look at the price for Office:mac 2011 Business edition (with Outlook) compared to the Office 2010 Business edition.
