but it said it is not compatible with my version os. os x 10.5.8
"update my mac" does not change the os version so what should I do?

Purchase Snow Leopard.

iLife 11 requires 10.6.3 minimum.

No you can just do an upgrade install. It will keep all your things on there. You may need to upgrade other software or drivers if they're not already Snow Leopard compatible.
