New Mac user here ....

For some reason I lose internet connection from time to time for a short period of time. It seems to happen most on Hotmail and YouTube.

Any ideas?

I am directly wired to my router. Never had this issue with my old PC.

How do you know you're losing Internet connection?

Have you checked your router up time to see if it's the router rebooting?

I am not sure what you are asking, but I can give a better example ...

I can browse for hours on various sites. Then I go to my Hotmail account. I use this as my junk email account and clear it out every few weeks. Well in trying to clear that out, I will lose my connection for 5 to 10 minutes about every 5 to 10 minutes. I can go to other sites and everything will be fine. Go back to hotmail and it starts losing connection again. I've also noticed it on YouTube, but not quite so often. I assume this is going to start happening to other websites along the way, but like I said I am a new Mac user and have only had my iMac since Thursday. Not sure if its a router issue or a computer issue?

I'd say it sounds more like an issue with hotmail's site vs your browser.

If you're using safari try downloading and using firefox to see if that makes a difference.

do you have any addins installed in safari?
