iphoto 11 appearance

I upgraded to iphoto 11, version 9.1.1. It has some cool new features but I like looking at the photo display not events and it has dark bars running across the screen where it used to have a line. It is very distracting and wondered if anyone new how to change the appearance. It also used to let you select and drop and drag photos from one event in the photo look and drop it in another event but no more.........
