Hi there- so I want to prevent my iPhone from auto syncing in iTunes, and I have selected the option in iTunes preferences...and this works for my iPad, it won't auto-sync, but my iPhone still auto-syncs.

Its actually like it's just auto-backing up, and not actually syncing (even though the phone always says syncing).

Any ideas?

Oh and I have an iPhone 4, and am running iTunes 10.2.2 on Snow Leopard

Try unchecking the don't auto-sync box under devices,
Connect each device in turn and allow it to auto-sync,
Disconnect all devices and recheck then don't auto-sync option

Let us know how it goes,

Wow, it worked!! Thanks!

I guess I had only tried that half way, I definitely thought to un/re select the box, but I never actually did a real sync in between.

Let's hope it sticks!

Awesome, glad to hear that that has worked for you. Yes lets hope nothing changes back, would be annoying if that turned out to be a temporary fix!
