I have owned my macbook pro for a little over 2 years and just ran into a problem with my earphone port. My earphones wont work and flashes red when I try to use it. Also the gold knobs that hold the jack in place, located in the earphone port, are stuck. They wont hold any inputs in place and would slip out on its own. Im up for any suggestions. Thanks!

Sounds like you've got the 3.5mm socket gunked up.

****** disclaimer - if you are unsure at all in messing with your MBP take it to be professionally examined ******

You could - carefully - check for any foreign matter in the socket. Use a clean plastic implement (like a tooth pick) to get any little bits of fluff/paper out.

Clean the port contacts using ISOPROPANOL IPA (Isopropyl Alcohol).

It's an excellent non-destructive cleaner for electronics.

****** research it's use on Google first - I can't take responsibility etc ;) ******
