Powermac G5 USB ports not working

Hello,
I have a powermac G5 DUal 2.0, 3.5GB RAM, Leopard and Tiger latest OS

USB ports stopped working. I have tried all the trouble-shoot procedures: Took out all PCI cards, Took out RAM, pressed the little SMU reset button on the logic board...

I have bought Allegro USB 2.0 PCI card. I have tried to get it to work with no luck. I was getting all kinds of strange responses. Computer freezing, Then gray screen "You need to shut down your computer"
messages like "USB device is drawing too much power, it will be shut off"

And the mouse was working for few seconds and then froze.

I have tried swapping diferent RAM and that is pretty much all I can do...no luck

Is there anything else I can try before I throw this machine in the garbage???

unplug all your peripherals, and try all your peripherals one at a time, to rule out any faults. (I would also remove the USB PCI card for now.)

if this isnt the case, id be inclined to say the logic board is faulty.

Yeah, I took them all out and all I could leave is the video card and memory.

Since the USB's aren't working I can't do anything else. So I am positive it's the logic board.

Is it complicated to replace logic board DIY or just throw it in the garbage ?

Its is extremely time consuming & exspensiveto replace one, even if you could find one.

before you give up, wait for a couple more members to reply, with a bit more experience in G5s.

Keep in mind, even after you repair the computer, it will be worth just $200-300...

You can find USB PCI cards that will fit your Mac for fairly little money.

Either the logic board or the power supply. Either way it'll cost more to fix than the machine is worth. It might be time for a new(er) machine.

Yea, definitely not worth further investing.
Mac G5 could be found on ebay for fairly cheap.

At this point his best bet is to either buy a used Intel Mac or just invest in a new one. The PPC architecture is dead no matter how much some might wish otherwise (myself included).

Have to agree. And it's too bad because my special love has always been the small compact 12" iBook. I know, buy an 11" Air!

I thought there were Intel Powermacs too, towards the end of the product's life, just before being taken over by the Mac Pro?

The PowerMac line was PPC only (PPC = Power PC = PowerMac). The first Intel Macs were MacPro's. Pretty simple.
