I have just purchased a CORE 1TB hard drive to replace my existing Lacie 500GB drive.
My Mac is seeing the new drive but when I drag and drop into it I either get a message telling me the drive cannot be modified or the files appear to go to the drive but do not appear.
Can anyone help?
Cheers

Location
Texas, where else?
Your Mac's Specs
15" MBP '06 2.33 C2D 4GB 10.7; 13" MBA '14 1.8 i7 8GB 10.11; 21" iMac '13 2.9 i5 8GB 10.11; 6S
What format is the drive?

I would suggest you open up Disk Utility, head for the partition tab (I believe) and format the drive to HFS+ journaled.

Thanks for the info.
Format is currently: Mac OS extended (journaled)
The other options are:
Mac OS extended
Mac OS extended (case sensitive, journaled)
Mac OS extended (case sensitive)
MS-DOS File system
Unix File
Free Space

I don't see HFS journaled
My current Lacie Hard Disc is showing MS-DOS file system.

Any thoughts? Should I format the CORE HD to MS-DOS?

Mac OS extended is HFS

Do a Get Info on the drive - make sure you have Read & Write permissions - it'll be at the bottom of the Get Info window.

What sort of drive is this? Have never heard of 'Core'. How is it connected?

Without knowing more about the drive, I would repartition and format it since it's new.

It's an external drive connected via USB.
Name on the drive is CORE by CnM, which I understand is a subsidiary of Sony.
As my current Lacie external drive is operating in MS-DOS format do you think I should use the same with new drive?

If you have no need to store individual files of 4GB or larger then MS-DOS (FAT-32) should work fine.

And you'll not be able to use Time Machine with FAT-32.

Sorry for delay in replying. Had to go to work.
I'll have a crack at that tomorrow.
Thanks for all your help.
