• The Mac-Forums Community Guidelines (linked at the top of every forum) are very clear, we respect US law and court precedence when it comes to legality of activity.

    Therefore to clarify:
    • You may not discuss breaking DVD or BluRay encryption, copying, or "ripping" commercial, copy-protected DVDs.
    • This includes DVDs or BluRays you own. Even if you own the DVD or BluRay, it is still technically illegal under the DMCA to break the encryption. While some may argue otherwise, until the law is rewritten or the US Supreme Court strikes it down, we will adhere to the current intent of the law.
    • You may discuss ripping or copying unprotected movies or homemade DVDs.
    • You may discuss ripping or copying tools in the context that they are used for legal purposes as outlined in this post.

Hi,

Downloaded MPLAYERX from the app store to my iMac but when I open a video file I can hear it but not see anything? What am I doing wrong?
Also tried to remove it to trash (was going to re-install) but it won't even do that?

What type of video are you trying to play? It can play just about anything but it's possible that it may have specific issues with the video that you're trying to view.

You should be able to trash it but you may be asked for your password.

The videos are .MOV
I cannot send the program to trash either from the applications folder.

You won't be able to send any program to the trash *while it is still open.*

I'll bet you a virtual dollar the program is still open. Hint: clicking on the "red button" on the upper left of a program's window does NOT generally quit the program. That's a Windows thing; Macs are different.

Click and hold on the program's icon in the dock, then choose "quit." NOW try throwing it in the trash from the Application folder.

Hi,

Although new to Mac I was fully aware that closing the window does not close the program and I even went as far as opening the force quit screen to see if it was there but it is not. It's not in the dock, it's not 'open' in the force quit screen and it's not there in the activity monitor screen?

Why wouldn't you just use QuickTime to play .mov files anyway?

MPLAYERX has had good reviews so I wanted to try it out as my AVCHD videos are looking rubbish when converted to .MOV files.
Turns out they look the same on both players so for whatever reason when converting the files the quality is poor.
