can I put more than 8Gb memory in my 2011 MBP?

You can go up to 16GB in a 2011....

Unless you are doing heavy video and/or photo rendering you will not notice any difference going from 8Gb to 16GB....

All I can say is OWC has their 16gb ram kit for 1,500. Not really inexpensive, but if you have the money enjoy.

there is almost no point in performing this upgrade.

8GB can be worthwhile if you are using virtualisation for Windows, but two fully fledged 64 bit OSes are going to be bottlenecked by the CPU a long shot before being able to take advantage of 16GB RAM.

it wont be any quicker than 8GB, and you wont notice any speed increase over an 8GB upgrade. for speed, get an SSD. you will see noticeable performance increases at a fraction of the price.
