Can I replace the current "dying" drive with a 7200 rpm rather than a 5400rpm?
I found a posting for a Seagate Momentus 5400.6 but it mentions an 8Gb cache rather than the (standard?) 16 Mb cache.
Also is any ATA going to fit?

So you have the older taller Mini? Pretty much any 2.5" Hard Drive should fit in the Mini from my experience upgrading a few of them. Check with OWC though and see what drives they recommend for your Mini to be sure

Your mini takes a 2.5" SATA hard drive, not an ATA drive. And yes, you can replace the 5400 RPM model with one that spins at 7200 RPM.

Good catch chscag. Yes, Serial ATA (SATA) 2.5". Any should work but I like OWC as then you have assurance it will work.

Thanks for the correction to Serial ATA and the experience notes! I caught the SATA just after posting this PM, and also caught myself before ordering a 9.7mm rather than 9.5mm thick drive. I'll let you know how my not-expensive purchase turns out.

LU, consider the WD AV Series drives as well. 32mb Cache and they stay super cool, not to mention very inexpensive on newegg. I've run the 320gb variants in my old work laptop (macbook alum C2d) and my PS3. I was very pleased with the results.
