Way... way too many specs to list.
So I ran the new MBP and the early 08 MBP today, the question is.. was it worth the upgrade?

Ok, I'll play since I wanted to see how my "new" iMac would perform. Not too bad, though I wish I could try at 64 bit. It gets the job done.

I'm going to bench my 2006 MBP after I get done erasing the HDD and reinstalling 10.6.

Well I got bored so I ran the 64bit test, as you can see my previous score hit 3905 in 32 bit mode, whereas in 64 bit mode I got:

Benched my iPhone 4 and my iPad 2.

I thought they would be very similar, but the iPhone's score was only about half the iPad's at 381 and 754, respectively.

I guess I hadn't really thought about it...so I didn't realize that Geekbench was available for iPhone & iPad...checked the Geekbench site...and there it was.

Pretty interesting to see how the iPad 2 & iPhone 4 stack up. Thanks for posting.:)

Yes...I was thinking that as well. But then I thought that this thread is in the "Lounge"...and is a mixture of notebooks & desktops already.

Also there's not really that many different models of iPads, iPhones, iPod Touch compared to desktops & laptops...other than different generations, memory configurations, and "3G-ness"/subscription plans. So a separate thread may not have as much "action" or variety.

But hey...could be interesting...would keep the data separate from the desktop/laptop threads...and certainly info you usually don't hear much about.:)

Seems pretty incredible how closely the 2.3GHz i7 in the MBP compares in performance against the 3.4GHz i7 in the iMac. I would think there would be a much bigger gap.

Arent they both mobile versions of the same processor?

Well that's why I thought all other things being equal the 3.4 GHz clock speed would kill a 2.3GHz clock speed, but apparently not.

I believe they both top out at the identical speed - 3.8 GHz - so yes - while you get a performance boost from the iMac - it's not blowing the MBP out of the water by any stretch.

could it be something to do with turbo having more headroom on the MBP?

then again, turbo really cant add an extra 45% to the clock speed just like that, surely?

my i5 2500k turbo's to 3.7 from 3.3. thats 4MHz.

apologies for my ramblings.

Ah, I forgot about the turbo boost.
