Interesting. I tried running XBench this morning and it hung, I assumed it was a Lion issue.

But that SSD benchmark is really amazing. The overall blows my MBP out of the water, just based on that alone.

Yours may be hanging the same place as mine - leave out the Thread test. Don't think it's working in Lion.

I should rerun it on my MBP since I've got scores in SL on that one - check and see if the OS is having an affect on any of the other scores.

Mine hung when I tried to run xbench under lion a couple weeks ago, also on the thread test. I'm leaving it out and giving it a go later, along with the new 1.6GHz i5 MBA that my fiancee just got.

I'm sure with the thread test, the CPU differences would be even more apparent. I'm more surprised by how hard that SSD spanks mine!

for some reason image links aren't working for me right yet. I'll get that straightened out then upload the results

Before I start running this on my two machines (1999 G4 PowerMac running Panther and 2008 Mac Pro 3.1 running Snow Leopard), can anyone give me a list of which background processes are safe to switch off?

ADDED LATER:

OK, 4pm and no answers forthcoming, so I went ahead, shut down every application and ran the tests:

PowerMac G4 Graphite (AGP/Sawtooth)
1.4GHz Sonnet CPU
2GB PC100
80GB System drive (65GB free space)

G4_Xbench_results.jpg

2008 Mac Pro 3,1 Dual Quad-core 2.8GHz
12GB PC2-6400
320GB System drive (170GB free space)

MP_3-1_Xbench_results.jpg

Verdict: to be honest, given that the Mac Pro has 8 x as many processors all running at twice the clock speed of the G4 and 6 x as much RAM running at 8 x the bus speed, I expected a bigger difference. A lot bigger.

ADDED LATER STILL!

OK, now I've seen pigoo3's post about Xbench under-reporting on 8-core Mac Pro machines. That might go some way to explaining things...

You, sir, need to get yourself an SSD. That will certainly improve your score.

I just got this 17in Macbook Pro on Friday, the things really flies.. The thing that impressed me was how cool it runs after hearing so many stories about a heat problem.. In real life benchmarks don't mean much but..........

Too many...
I was just on the phone with OWC customer service about my 240gb OWC SSD not performing to spec. When I told them that I used Xbench for my testing, they said that it is not a reliable program for testing, and that a more accurate program is QuickBench. I don't have that, since it cost money, but I would like to know if anyone here does, and how it compares in results. My ssd is getting max read at 179MB/sec and max write at 177MB/sec. I'll be returning this for a refund. My last OCZ ssd was faster:(
Also, the Negotiated Link Speed is at 3 Gigabits, so I know it's not the issue of it being only 1.5, which is what they first thought was the issue.

I would post some screen shots of everything, but I'm running out of time.

i wouldnt rely on XBench to be honest. I would use Geekbench and rely on that, as its been updated regularly.

Well - you're trying to link to an image that's on your hard drive. You need to post it to a photo hosting site - like Photobucket - to use the

I just did the X bench test. I ticked all the testes (CPU, Quarts, Thread, Open GL, Memory, User Interface, and Disk)

Result i got was 346.03 (i took a screen shot) i also got once a 350 result, but didn't save the screen for it.

I upgraded recently from 4GB to 8GB memory, but i never felt the difference.
