I was torn as to where to place this because it is kind of a software and hardware question.

I have an older G4 350 running 10.4.9. I have a friend who wants to sell me a dual core G5 (1.8 I think). The G5 does not have a hard drive. Can I just move the hard drive from my G4 (operating system and all) to the G5? Will it work or will I have to put in a new drive and install the operating system all over again.

Thanks for the help. I do hope I put this post in the correct place.

G'day and welcome to the forums.

No. G5 machines use SATA drives whereas your G4 has an IDE drive.

Be careful buying any machine that does not have a hard drive and the 1.8GHz is an old, old machine. Do not pay too much, more than $150.00.
