My 4th generation iPod touch seems to think that there are constantly headphones in the jack, even if there aren’t. I’ve tried a system reset then restore from back up but it didn’t seem to solve anything. Earlier today I got a few drop of water on the bottom of it. I promptly dried it, but might this be what is causing it?

Seems I spoke too soon. Blew in the jack really hard (must resist that’s what she said joke -_-) and it seemed to have solved the problem.

Thanks for those who read this though!

Good to hear you solved it! The tip contact on the jack opens a switch when you insert it, telling the iPod that headphones are plugged in. Pocket-crap gets into the switch and holds it open, as you found out!

The iPod's headphone jack and hold switch are on a seperate and removeable PCB (good design IMO, portable player jacks are often damaged), so even if the jack was faulty, it can be replaced easily without costly logic board replacement.

Thanks a lot for the explanation!
