Though obviously very few people have used the new iMacs yet, from their spec sheet would there be any significant difference in casual usage and gaming between the base $1200 model and a $2200 Macbook Pro (assuming the game was at the same resolution on both)?

Your Mac's Specs
15" MBP '06 2.33 C2D 4GB 10.7; 13" MBA '14 1.8 i7 8GB 10.11; 21" iMac '13 2.9 i5 8GB 10.11; 6S
There would not be a "significant" difference.

The MBP should be better at:

Gaming - a little - only due to having 1GB memory vs the 512MB in the iMac. Probably only noticeable at high settings.

Will definitely beat out the iMac encoding video if using an app that can make use of 8 threads.

For pretty much all other regular everyday type stuff, no. But then, for all the other regular everyday stuff, probably not much difference between them and my 4 yr old 2.33 C2D.
