I'm glad they're finally rolling out those HD cameras to more models. For too long Apple has stuck with low quality webcams.

I kinda feel that way when it comes to the iPod touch and iPad 2 cameras. They produce semi-decent pictures. Maybe the Mac cameras will spread to the mobile devices.

As for the updates to the iMac line…yesssssssssssssss. That's a heckuva an all-in-one

A 27" with the 3.4 i7 and 2GB 6970 AMD is in my future. Now I just need to decide if I want the SSD or not.

Same here - I think. I was debating on the SSD but unchecked that option. I think an SSD will be more useful to me on my MBP then the desktop - just waiting on the SSD crop coming later this year.

Back to my old 2.2GHz C2D MB after selling my MBP and wondering what my next Mac will be :)
I like the option to have a the SSD as a second HD, but I'd like to know where it goes, and I don't know why that option isn't available on the bass model.
AU$600 though for a 256GB SSD is a bit extreme also.

I was really hoping that they'd make the HD's accessible on this line up!

Congrats you lucky dog ! You'll have to let me know how the upgrade affects speed/performance with LR3.

When I get an new iMac, I'm definitely going that route, but there's no way I'm going to let Apple steal my money like that. I'll be purchasing :

These suction cups which one can likely get from Home Depot or Lowes, so I'll check there as well, but that's still a great price for 2 of them.

This slot loading caddy which will seat an SSD or regular HDD

And an SSD from OWC. Which one, I'm not sure. But I've seen tutorials for replacing the hard drive, as well as the optical drive, and it doesn't look hard at all. Just requires patience and thoughtfulness. And of course a couple of Torx screw bits and an philips head screwdriver...

So, I'll have the SSD be the boot drive with the OS, and likely replace the HD that came with the iMac with a 2 TB drive for storage n' such things. I'll likely also use the replaced HD in an external enclosure for more storage, no doubt.

Add to the list 16 gigs of RAM from OWC and I'll be satisfied for quite some time I believe. Unfortunately, I just got passed up for a job, (the ol' yer too qualified bit.. oh thank gOODness I'm so qualified! ) so this will have to wait... MEH.

Suddenly my 4 month iMac is outdated... The only thing I really want is the duel SSD/regular HD. That wasn't available in the 21 inch when I got mine.

OK - so Apple have upgraded the iMac spec - Great !

But - to the vast majority of non-Specialists out here - it really doesn't matter that much to our daily usage etc - does it ?

Although perhaps luckily - yesterday I was about to order the newer model of the iMac 27" I bought about 9 months back from the UK-for the i3 version, having been so impressed with the i3 21.5 iMac I bought a month ago...
Put that on hold until Amazon.co.uk get the new models in stock !
I actually tried to order one of the new ones this morning from Amazon.com - but they won't deliver to me here !!
Strange that really, in these times of Worldwide recession etc !
But-they WiLL deliver a nice white iPhone 4 - OR should I wait for that upgrade ?:Smirk:

IF people sat around waiting for the next upgrades - would they EVER buy anything ??
I think a lot of you folk are a bit erm - 'out-of-touch- with the Real World.
With Respect !!:p

P.S.What happens now to all the un-sold 'out-of-date' Macs ???

It still isn't available in the basic 21.5" model. You have to choose the more expensive 21.5" machine to get the dual drive option.

Those graphics cards are a shot in the arm for Mac gaming.

I know why they don't offer it but I wish there was an easier GPU upgrade path

Thanks! I'll give you a full report :) Not happy to hear about how the job search turned out - here's hoping something better turns up for you in its place.

wow, I'm quite jealous I'll admit it. I hope you enjoy yours, they look amazing.

Thanks - I'm excited too - although not as excited as I was for my first Mac earlier this year - but still - excited. Of course the downside is, this one I have to let my wife use. :)

I am really liking the new dual ThunderBolt input/outputs. That could really come in handy! I also LOVE the new AMD Radeon HD 6970M 2GB GDDR5!

Good luck with your new iMac Brian!

I like the idea of the GPU being on its own board so if it were to go bad no need for an entire logic board replacement. Those heat sinks look like they are going to keep this a cool running machine.

A little off topic - Can anyone recommend a place (Keep in mind I am from Ontario, Canada) where they can switch out my Superdrive for an SSD and get it all set up? Although I have watched the ifixit videos and it doesn't look "extremely" difficult. I would rather have a pro take do the job.

Depends on how much you would want to pay, really. If you couldn't do it on your own, I would only trust to take it to Apple. They charge a little more than a family run computer shop, but that comes with trust. I would NOT take it to BestBuy. BestBuy couldn't even take apart my sisters sony viao, which was a piece of cake for me to fix later. The iMac is supposed to be one of the hardest new line-up of Macs to take apart.
