I was wondering if anyone has used cloud services. I was trying out amazons cloud service. they offer 5gb for free. so anyway it was taking 45 minutes to upload about 700mb. is this about average for this type of service. it seems like it will take me a long time to back up all my data at that rate if i purchase more space.

Is there any better alternatives. Will Lion have a better cloud service i should wait for instead of using amazon. Is anyone using one they are happy with?

Your main problem is not the service you are uploading to, it's going to be your ISP and how fast you can upload.

well im using cable internet. it still takes 45 minutes to upload a 700mb file. I hadnt realized uploading was so slow. Maybe cloud service isnt practical for me. I have 100 gb of data and it would take over 80 hours to upload it all.

Oh well. maybe i would just be better off with a firewire drive.

It's not just a matter of the type of service provider (cable vs. dsl) though that can be an issue. Using the same basic technology, cable for instance, the upload and download speeds can vary considerably. In fact, speeds for some of the larger providers such as time Warner, may vary somewhat from one region of the country to another. Just as an example take a look at some of the speed variations represented in this thread MacOSG :: Mac Owners Support Group :: Apple News & Support • View topic - Speakeasy Broadband Speed Test
