• The Mac-Forums Community Guidelines (linked at the top of every forum) are very clear, we respect US law and court precedence when it comes to legality of activity.

    Therefore to clarify:
    • You may not discuss breaking DVD or BluRay encryption, copying, or "ripping" commercial, copy-protected DVDs.
    • This includes DVDs or BluRays you own. Even if you own the DVD or BluRay, it is still technically illegal under the DMCA to break the encryption. While some may argue otherwise, until the law is rewritten or the US Supreme Court strikes it down, we will adhere to the current intent of the law.
    • You may discuss ripping or copying unprotected movies or homemade DVDs.
    • You may discuss ripping or copying tools in the context that they are used for legal purposes as outlined in this post.

Howdy all,

I have a bunch of video lectures that I would like to put on my iPhone to listen while in the car and at work. I have all ready ripped the DVDs using Mac the Ripper and ran them through Handbrake. I have the videos, but they eat up too much space and I won't be able to watch them -- just listen to the audio. So, how do I go about getting only audio? Preferably a free method, but I guess any answer would be outstanding!

PS I am new here, but have lurked around the forums for a while. I'm glad to be here!

You didn't say, but I'm going to assume you mean that you now have a series of MP4-format video files?

If so, you can open them in almost any video-supporting program and "save as" just an audio file. Quicktime 7 Pro (which you may have) will do this, as well as MPEG Streamclip (free).

Here's how it would look in MPEG Streamclip:
