Hi All,

Im experiencing significantly slower shut-down times as of recently...
I'm unsure as to what may have caused this due to the fact i hit the shut-down button in OSX and then leave my laptop to shut off.

I'm using a 2010 MacBook Pro 2.4GHz. I have a windows partition, but i doubt that matters... Otherwise, my machine has no other sizeable and most likely, notable, modifications.

I've had a look at the system.log of what is happening when i shut-down my laptop and the bolded lines are the ones of interest and causing the majority of the delay.

I've done everything i can find that might relate to this...
Reset PRAM, repaired disk, onyx cleanups and maintenance, and i've uninstalled parallels which was the perp for a previously even longer shutdown time.

I'm by no means clued up on the OSX intrnals of the operating system, but i do have a bit of experience with other types of systems and have managed to get my head around most of this so far by way of googling and common sense but I'm at a loss now as to what mDNS is and why its taking 20secs to complete what its doing...
If anyone can shed some light onto this and possible help with diagnosing whats causing this 20sec extra delay in shutdown time i'd be so grateful!

Cheers,
Austin

From what quick reading and searching I've done.... the "mDNSResponder" seems to be related to Apple's Bonjour services and also some others that are listed in the Man pages:

Take a look and see what you can come up with. Perhaps something will be familiar from which you can try to resolve the long shut downs.
