Dear Friends,

I would like to connect my MacBook to my wide screen TV so I can stream movies from Netflix.

I have this type of MacBook notebook (previously they called it MacBook only, but now they call it MacBook Pro -- it's essentially the same model, but different name) Apple (Canada) - MacBook Pro - The new MacBook Pro. Huge leaps in performance.

Now, on the back of my TV I have two types of connection that can be used for computer: "RGB (PC)" <-- I guess this one is not something I will use. The second one is: "HDMI/DVI IN" and I think this is the one I will be using with my MacBook.

Now, my question is: What cable do I need to purchase from Apple.ca so I can connect my MacBook to my TV and stream movies from Netflix? Perhaps I could also use this cable to surf the internet on my TV?

Cables - Apple Store (Canada)

Please help and Thank You all in advance

Hey guys, I already have high speed HMDI cable :)
Basically, as I understand this, I simply plug my high speed HDMI cable into Mini Display Port, connect one end of the cable to TV and the other to Notebook, and voila! That's it? Wow. I am going to purchase this Mini Display Port immediately !!! I will let you know how everything works, hopefully I don't encounter problems while installing. Thank you guys very much !!! :)

Good. And just to be clear the computer already has a minidisplay port you are buying an adaptor for minidisplay port to HDMI. You shouldent have any problems its just plug and play.

Oh yea the newer ones do sound but onces from before 2010 dont. Most tvs have an HDMI in which will also allow you to plug in an rca cable for sound (a red and a white plug) so this should do it for the low price of 76cents if your TV supports it.

It looks like it will work, however, make sure you can return it for a full refund if it doesn't.

It depends on your computer. Only the 2010 MacBooks and later support audio out through the display port. Dont waste your money on it if your computer is not 2010 or later. They do make some that plug into both the display port and USB and combine it into HDMI with audio but they tend to be expensive.

Since you do not have the current version MBP that you represented you had according to the link in your first post, you need to tell us specifically which Mac you have. Buying it in 2010 does not provide enough info.

What size screen, and which CPU is in the machine?

Not really. If you only need stereo audio, Monoprice has one for that. If you want surround sound audio, they have one that pulls audio from the USB that is only $50.

ah... Impulsive shopping. I purchased this thing for $35, have video, but no sound.
Now, I checked, and indeed, my MacBook aluminum was purchased at the end of 2009, so yeah. Now, is there any way I could connect sound with separate cable such as this one:

0 Logiix AUX Audio Cable - 1/8-Inch - LGX10064 ;Computers ;Video and Sound Devices ;London Drugs

Not that one. More likely you will need one like the one I linked to earlier. LINK

but that depends if your tv has a HDMI port on the back that takes RCA sound

??? We don't know what type of audio connection is on the back of your TV. The one that should be labeled as DVI audio port. The last couple years Samsung have had a stereo mini-plug like that. Almost every other TV uses the red/white stereo RCA plugs.

Ok so just like I said before they are available but much more expensive than a minidisplay port to hdmi and a 76cent RCA audio cable.

So like 8 bucks total.

The link to that particular monoprice adapter/cable will actually do 5.1 though. Can't get that with a RCA cable.

Of course, don't really need 5.1 if running it to the TV. That'd be more for those using their A/V receiver as a switch.

(NOTE to self: Proved correct again... make the op tell you what specific model Mac they have or you're advising the wrong adapter to purchase.)
