I have my SD Card inserted and now I cant figure out how to access it. It doesnt show up on the desk top anymore either. I know it is not a system problem but rather operator error. I want to copy my photos to my external hard drive.

I take it from your post that you have been able to use it before successfully?
May sure it is mounted correctly, check in Applications > Utilities > Disk Utility and check that it is showing up in the left pane there.

Also if you could post your mac specs (model, year, OS) that would be great.

Cheers

Does it show up in the Finder sidebar?

Try opening Finder - Preferences - on the General tab under Devices - (sorry, not sure what you folks see there that have the SD reader built in as I don't have one) - check off SD card, external - whatever it is you need.

When you have FInder showing in the upper left corner click Finder> Preferences>

once the window pops up You'll have General Labels Sidebar and Advanced as options at the top. Click General (it is a light switch). Once that is done you will have some check boxes under 'Show these items on the desktop:' Go ahead and check the box for 'External disks'

That will have every cd,dvd,SD card, external drive.. etc.. you plug in pop up on the desktop.

I wanted to get RID of icons on my desktop, and somebody on here showed me that.

Did you choose to have SD card appear from Finder, Preferences, Sidebar? Make sure you have the correct boxes checked. Specifically "External Disks".
