Internet connection to Steam not working

I have no idea if this is the right place to post this, but oh well..
I have a macbook pro
I downloaded steam for mac (like an idiot)
Then steam started messing up..
And now its not even connecting to the internet at all..
so yeah, what do i need to do to fix this?

Please help.. this is Very frustrating..

oh and btw im using safari..
and after awhile it gives me a msg saying..
"Safari can't open the page "----" because the server where this page is located isn't responding."

Has reinstalling the software had any results?
