how to view my own ip address

Hi there, i am new to mac and there are two question would like to know, if anyone can help

1) can anyone pls tell me how to i check my IP address using mac.

eg. Windows:

normaly i will go to "RUN" and type "CMD" and put in "ipconfig" and i will see my ip address inside.

so what is the method i use in mac?

2) How do i check or know what is my router IP address using mac?

i normaly use that to change my router setting using Internet browser

1. System Preferences > Network > click network device on the left hand side.
2. By router IP, I assume you mean external. If so, your router should have a record of that somewhere. If not, you can visit this page to get it quickly.

Open Terminal, type "ifconfig" (Interface Configuration)

For my setup, my wireless ended up being device EN1.

there is another question here,

how do i know my computer name, those question i ask earlier is actually want to check out who is using my wireless network, i have a few ip address and trying to find out who is who. any help?

In Terminal, you can type "hostname"
Click on Finder and the machine name will be the top entry under Devices.
Use the System Profiler, click on "Software" on the left pane.
There are probably others as well.

Open up the Terminal and type 'hostname' and 'ifconfig' to get your name and IP address. Then visit your router with Safari/FF/Chrome and look at the IP address list to find yours and others..

sorry, not even one i tried that can see my computer name or maybe i see the wrong thing,

1) when i type "hostname" in the terminal, this came out "Users-MacBook-Pro.local"

2) in the Finder there is only two device "Macintosh HD" an "Idisk" there is none of my computer name in the network

3) i can find the System Profiler

Aw man, you have me going back through playing in the command line again like to good old days.

1. your Host name is "Users-MacBook-Pro.local" Take the ".local" off and you will have what you named it, or just left it named from install.
2. You may not have everything Visible, I do. You can enable that, however, in the Finder Preferences, Sidebar tab.
3. System Profiler is in the Utilities Folder in Applications.

Only by looking at the dhcp client list on your router.

is it the one i said earlier using internet explo to login to my router?

or do u know is there any program that can download?

You can use ANY browser to login to your router..There is no Internet Explorer for Mac..so use Safari or Firefox or Chrome..

yeah i did that, i was using firefox, and login to my router but never see my computer name there hahah and i was using internet, thats y i ask a stupid question..

The router may not resolve your computer name, and only deal with MAC address. You have to dig through the router setting pages to find the information and it will depend on the router and firmware version.

If you have a wifi password set up, then no one will be on your network unless you have given them the password.

wait wait you're making your life harder. Just google my ip address..

ipconfig getifaddr en1 (or en0 - if using wired Ethernet) So many ways to skin this cat

The sites out there that tell you IP address tell you what your public IP address is, not your local IP address handed out by a router which the OP was interested in finding out..
