Dock light indicators?

How does everyone change the lights? I am using dock library for the actual dock but can't figure out how to change the lights.

This should be in software not hardware.

Candybar is one app that will change the dock appearance. Not sure if there is a free alternative.

I've been using an program called "Leopard Docks" for a while now. works fine in SL too.
