Help! Can't get past blue screen at startup!

So, my MacBook took about a two foot fall while it was turned on. I know, I know- red flag bad news. BUT! It continued to work afterward! However, once I turned it off and try to turn it on it now won't go past the blue screen. It's strange though, because my mouse still shows up on the screen and is responsive to the trackpad. Plugging my ipod in also causes it to try to start syncing. It is trying to work!
Basically, I'm hoping there is something I can try to do to fix it. I'm living in Buenos Aires and the idea of trying to go to an apple store and get this repaired is quite daunting.
Any suggestions are GREATLY appreciated!!!

Only thing I can recommend is the SMC reset.
